How Donations Help: Breaking Down What $100, $150, and $250 Cover

At My Own Place, every contribution — big or small — directly supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in living fulfilling, independent lives. We believe in transparency, dignity, and meaningful impact. When you choose to give, you’re not just offering funds — you’re changing someone’s daily experience, opportunity, and future.

Here’s a clear, easy-to-understand breakdown of how your support makes a real difference.

Your Donation at Work

Below are examples of what your generosity can help provide. Actual costs may vary, but the heart of your impact remains the same: every dollar helps someone in our community live more independently and confidently.

$100 Helps Provide…

1. Essential Daily Living Supplies

Basic but essential items like hygiene kits, cleaning supplies, or home-organization tools to support individuals settling into or maintaining their independent living spaces.

2. Transportation Support

Assists with ride-share credits or public transportation passes for doctor appointments, grocery trips, or community outings — helping individuals stay active and connected. Donations are also the primary funding we have that helps with the purchase and maintenance of our own vehicles. Many of which we also have to have adapted for wheelchairs.

3. Skill-Building Activity Kits

Supports materials for cooking lessons, budgeting practice, safety training, and other life-skill sessions that promote long-term independence.

$150 Helps Provide…

1. A Week of Community Integration Activities

Covers participation in community outings, social events, classes, or recreational activities that build confidence, reduce isolation, and strengthen social skills.

2. Personalized Assistive Tools

Helps purchase adaptive kitchen utensils, communication tools, planners, or sensory supports tailored to an individual’s goals.

$250 Helps Provide…

1. Technology That Promotes Independence

Supports items like tablets for communication, medication reminders, budgeting apps, visual schedules, or home safety devices — essential tools that empower day-to-day autonomy.

2. Emergency Support Fund Assistance

Helps individuals facing unexpected challenges (food insecurity, urgent supplies, temporary transportation needs) so no one goes without critical support.

3. Furnishing & Home-Setup Support

Assists with furniture, bedding, kitchen basics, or comfort items for individuals transitioning into more independent living arrangements.

Why This Matters

Every donation multiplies into something extraordinary:

  • Independence — supporting skills and tools that promote self-reliance
  • Dignity — ensuring adults with disabilities live in safe, comfortable homes
  • Community — helping individuals stay connected, active, and supported
  • Opportunity — giving people the chance to grow, thrive, and define their own path

Your generosity isn’t just financial — it’s transformational.

The Power of Collective Giving

No single contribution funds everything, but together, our community creates real, lasting change.

Whether you give $10, $100, or $1,000, every dollar helps someone move closer to a life of independence, purpose, and belonging. And during the holiday season — when needs grow and resources stretch thin — your support matters more than ever.

In addition to your donations going to the above we also host events throughout the year, like Mandy's Memorial Fund, which help us provide travel and vacations for those that otherwise would not have the ability. Quality of life is a part of our Mission Statement, and we believe that goes beyond just the necessary tools for living life.

A Final Note of Thanks

To everyone who has donated, volunteered, advocated, or shared our mission — thank you. Your kindness fuels everything we do at My Own Place.

If you’d like to support our mission this season, consider making a year-end donation or sharing this post with others who believe in dignity, independence, and opportunity for adults with disabilities.

Together, we are building a world where everyone has the chance to live in their own place — with confidence, support, and pride.

Don't miss these..
